The Oak Tree

The Oak Tree

A mighty wind
Blew night and day
It stole the oak tree's leaves away

Then snapped its boughs
And pulled its bark
Until the oak was tired and stark

But still the oak tree held its ground
While other trees fell all around
The weary wind gave up and spoke
How can you still be standing Oak

The oak tree said, I know that you
Can break each branch of mine in two
Carry every leaf away
Shake my limbs, and make me sway

But I have roots stretched in the earth
Growing stronger since my birth
You'll never touch them, for you see
They are the deepest part of me

Until today, I wasn't sure
Of just how much I could endure
But now I've found, with thanks to you
I'm stronger than I ever knew

Wave On, Red, White and Blue

Wave On, Red, White and Blue

There’s a beautiful flag that’s waving;
So special for all of my life;
Many times carried to battle
Over men’s conflicts and strife.
I’ve seen it draped over a casket,
Folded in triangle shape too,
You understand lives were given -
Wave on red, white and blue!

When evil men dare to attack us
Or deal out a terrorist blow;
Our flag is a symbol of status -
Flying high like a torch, up it goes!
On every government building,
Over every ship in the bay,
Every county court house -
Each little church by the way.

And it feels so good the see the red, white and blue
Flying high all across our land,
And there seems to be an endless stream of songs that we sing,
American, God bless you, - hand in hand...
We’ll sing them all together once again...
We’ll raise our flag the highest it has been...
We’ll stand united singing songs of you...

Wave on! Wave on! Bright red, white, and blue!

Don’t ~ Joan Clifton Costner©

Don’t
Don’t whip a wounded soldier ~
Don’t add burdens to his cares;
If you’re an upright Christian
Put his name within your prayers.
Don’t pass the questioned story ~
Even if you think it’s true;
Remember there are holy eyes
Always watching you!
Don’t watch in silent judgment ~
Don’t render up a doubt;
Why not reach out in love and care
And show what you’re about!
"Life is real! Life is earnest!"
Said the poet long ago;
If you’d face the Master upright ~
Use all diligence here below.

God's America - Joan Clifton Costner

God's America
(Written upon the return of POWs from Vietnam )

America , lift high your many churches
And raise again the song of mighty God!
Our citizens are back in their own country;
Their steps are found upon their native sod!

Through all the technical negotiations,
Our due respect and praise we give these men.
But we know, without the prayer of all the Christians,
Their safe release would've never ever been.

Someday, we'll learn. Oh, help us, God, to remember
That not one breath we draw against Thy will.
Nations rise and fall, at Thy direction,
And leader come with Your permission still.

Let us learn, again, the art of fasting
And praying for our leaders every day.
Let this nation that is known as Christian.
Be quick to say that God restored today.

For though all men may claim the glorious victory,
Still, in our heart we know it was our God.
For, it was not lifeless bodies they returned to us.
It was the living images of God!

America , lift high your many churches!
Peal out the bells and raise your flag up high!
God brought you forth and laid to you a destiny.
America , with God, will never die!

The Trials

The Trials

Yes, the trials came and, once again,
I failed the test ~ I lost.
But, I must gird up now, try again,
For He endured the cross.

My Model, Oh, my Model is
My goal, my love, my life.
I cannot fail forever, so
Again, I'll face the strife.

Until all dross has disappeared,
All discord passed away,
I will press on 'til, mercy-filled,
My life can be displayed.

So, when I'm gone, all done with trials
(With tests to make me strong),
The lingering colors of my life will
Bring after glows with a beautiful song.

~ * ~
My brethren, count it all joy when
But let patience have her perfect work,
that ye may be perfect and entire,
wanting nothing.

One Nation, Under God ~ Restored August 27th, 2014

One Nation, Under God

 "One nation, under God,
Indivisible," it says.
"One nation, under God,"
So our forefathers led.

 They didn’t quite apologize,
When they referred to God.
They never were the least ashamed,
Or weak, those men of God.

Oh, God! For men like that today;
Who held Your banner high,
Who vowed to live was 'Christ to live'
And it was gain to die ...

Who knew that wrong was never right
And right was never ever wrong,
Who stood for You and never winced;
Their voice muscle in Your song!

"One nation, under God ..."
"One nation, under" ... who?
Can men repeat that precious pledge
And do the things they do?

God, help us stand with courage new
And bind our nation's wounds.
Let strong knees bend, MEN lift, again,
Their voice in prayer to You!

I'm Againt Sin - Billy Sunday

Billy Sunday Quote

“Listen, I'm against sin. I'll kick it as long as I've got a foot, I'll fight it as long as I've got a fist, I've butt it as long as I've got a head, and I'll bite it as long as I've got a tooth. And when I'm old, fistless, footless, and toothless, I'll gum it till I go home to glory and it goes home to perdition.”

Forgiveness Is Sweet

Forgiveness Is Sweet

It was so hard to forgive
those who hurt and did me wrong,
the ones who lied, and those who tried
to snuff out my victor's song.

I took the shame and sorrow,
they heaped upon my soul,
I bent and broke in pieces,
no longer strong and whole.

My self esteem was zero,

I felt worthless, stained with dirt,
I bowed beneath the burden,
unsure, defamed, and hurt.

But then I met the Savior,

and saw the way He came
to mankind meek and lowly,
shaped of a different frame;

Earthly beauty did not matter,

neither wealth nor fame,
but just to please the Father,
this man with God's own name.

I took His life unto me,

gave Him what had been mine,
I no longer had to worry
if men were cruel or unkind.

I asked for His forgiveness,

and shared it with those in need
of forgiveness for their mortal selves,
for sinful word or deed.

As I granted this Grace, forgiveness,

I gained a blessed relief,
my spirit grew strong with honor,
my heart grew full of peace.

I now seek only God's opinion;

Is He pleased with me?
For He alone is worthy
to judge and require a change in me.

Let Me Tell You How

Let Me Tell You How

Let me tell you how

We can live, again,

In a Land so glorious;

Without a trace of sin.

Jesus will be there

(Sonlight in the air!);

Constant and abiding love,

Always sincere care ...

And it will be

So glorious to see.

His love for, you and me,

Will last forever.

Amazing grace!

We'll see His blessed face,

A mansion in that place,

And we'll leave it never.

Just trust Him, every day.

Keep your faith so strong.

One day, you'll see gates of pearl.

It won't be very long.

A smile upon His face ~

Tender, precious, grace;

A hundred million perfect years,

Where time will all erase.

Yes, it will be so glorious to see.

His love, for you and me,

Will last forever!

Amazing grace!

We'll see His blessed face,

A mansion in that Place.

We'll leave it never.

My Mother's Knee

My Mother’s Knee

I have worshiped in church and chapel,

I've prayed on the busy street;

I have sought my God and found Him

Where the waves of the ocean beat.

I have knelt in silent forest,

In the shade of some ancient tree;

But the dearest of all my altars

Was the one at my mother's knee.

The things in my life that are worthy

Were born in my mother's breast,

And breathed into mine by the magic

Of the love her life expressed.

The years that brought me manhood

Have taken her far from me,

But memory keeps me from straying

Too far from my mother's knee.

O God, make me the man of her vision

And purge me from selfishness;

God keep me true to her standard

help me to live to bless.

God hallow the holy impress

Of the days that used to be,

And keep me a pilgrim forever

At the shrine of my mother's knee.
