The Cross - Joan Costner

The Cross! The Cross!
Where Holy Blood all down did flow -
Where people stood on Holy Ground
And did not know....
Where angels gasp, and closed their eyes;
And foolish men, believing,
Became wise.
The Cross! The Cross!
Where Love divine and bitter gall would meet;
And tears would flow, not for Himself, but me!
Where even nature wept and trembled through -
Where darkness fell with force
Ere night was due.
The Cross! The Cross!
Where Satan laughed and thought that he had won,
But Christ knew when the deed was done
It would not be the devil’s victory -
It would be souls that He, Himself
set free!

The Cross! The Cross!
The ugly plan of men to bring most pain
Has brought instead for us, a Heaven’s gain!
The symbol of a horrid death depose and
Fill my heart with treasure Christ well knows.
The Cross! The Cross!
The insidious sign now made so beautiful!
The ultimate loss - ultimate gain!
The Son of God - dead but alive -
Forever more the same!
I cannot look upon the cross but know
There is no measure of the love that flows
There is no measure of the strength of Blood;
Oh, Holy Blood, sweep o’er me like a flood.

Romans 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
 Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Colosians 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Compassion - Gertrude Jefferies

Compassion
by Gertrude Jefferies

Airing our own dirty laundry
Is something we'd rather not do,
Can't we be as kind to others
Who make mistakes in their lives, too?

We've all made mistakes in our lifetime
Wrong choices we'd rather forget,
But someone showed us compassion
And friendship—the Jesus concept.

It's so easy to point fingers
And easier to criticize,
But let's make a point to remember
We're ruining other people's lives.

Jesus said, 'seventy times seven'
I say, 'walk a mile in their shoes,
We don't know why people stumble
But they need a friend, if they do.

Some day I may need compassion
And a friend, if mine have all gone,
I won't want a pointing finger,
Or tongues wagging about my wrong.

So, Lord, let me show to others
What I would expect for myself,
A little of your compassion,
And a friend being there to help.

SHADOWS - Joan Clostner

SHADOWS
You are teaching, they are learning ~
Even when you’re not aware,
Everything from patient answers
To the silent, vacant stare.
You are teaching ~ they are learning ~
Habits formed by what you do
There is not a body movement
They don’t mimic after you.
This requires a little thinking ~
A decision yours alone ~
You must set your course and hold it
Make the answers sure your own.
For when the child is tender,
Like the sapling of the tree;
You can bend and train the pattern
That you’d like the world to see.
We may laugh at sassy children,
And the tantrums that they throw ~
Might be cute when they are tiny~
When they’re older, that’s not so.
It can bring a lot of trouble
If it’s not in their control;
We all need to have a temper
That is ours ~ to reach the goal...
But a temper that is flaring,
Unkind hands and burning eyes,
Should not be the foremost model
For the pattern we would guide.
There’s instruction for the loving,
The forgiving and the brave
In the Book we call the Bible ~
For the soul that would be saved!
It’s an act of loving kindness
That will benefit us all ~
And the Lord will bless and thank us ~
When our little ones stand tall!
You are teaching ~ they are learning;
So make each move, each word, with grace,
If you’d raise your face to Jesus,
When you see Him face to face!

The Gun Fight! - Louis Gander

The Gun Fight!
by louis gander

The sun was rising in the east
behind some hitching posts.
And weathered boards, on buildings old,
had nothing left to boast.

But I wore fancy cowboy duds,
I was a handsome sight.
A crowd of people gathered 'round
to watch this old gun fight.

The street was dead and empty
except for sin and I -
and how I ended up out here,
I'm really not sure why.

A bullet? Very dangerous,
if we've no self-control -
and sin is much more dangerous,
because it kills the soul.

Noon met with humidity.
The sun was dry and hot.
Beads of sweat rolled down my face -
my stomach, in a knot.

But no, I wasn't nervous -
though duel had begun.
I counted out ten paces -
then turned and drew my gun.

But sin is faster, furious -
much quicker than the eye.
Oh please! Dear Lord and Saviour -
I do not want to die!

And then... in just an instant,
I dropped down to my knees -
then fell as peace passed over me.
I felt the gentle breeze.

But something stood in front of me.
Its shadow crossed my face.
I then saw Jesus on that cross.
He took my very place.

Ashamed, I dropped my pistol.
My pride was killed that day -
as I pulled off my fancy boots
and flung my hat away.

Humbled on the dusty street
with crowded eyes on me -
my every pride had vanished.
I learned humility.

In faithfulness, I stood again,
though I was at a loss...
How could Jesus love me so
on that old rugged cross?

The sun was setting in the west
behind some hitching posts.
And weathered boards, on buildings old,
had nothing left to boast.

Where Art Thou? - Gary L S West

Where Art Thou?
by Gary L S West

Father, kneeling
Here am I
First time in many years

Father, crying
Asking why
And shedding countless tears

Father, doubting
Where were You
In all my times of need

Father, waiting
Are You true?
Why does my hope recede?

Father, hurting
Broken heart
I, in a corner, quake

Father, aching
Fell apart
From nightmares, let me wake

Father, failing
Can't see how
I'm running out of breath

Father, dying
Need You now
I'm so afraid of death

Father, praying
I beseech
Oh, how I desperate plead

Father, staying
Within reach
Oh, how my soul did bleed

Father, hearing
Thy still voice
A balm unto my soul

Father, healing
Calm rejoice
As slow Thou mend me whole

Father, resting
Sleeping soft
And unafraid of harms

Father, waking
Heart aloft
Held safe within Thy arms

Father, thanking
Weeping now
In gratitude of You

Father, praising
This I vow
My soul to Thee be true

True Love - By M.S.Lowndes

True Love

Love can always conquer
Whatever discord brings
And love can also cover
A multitude of things

Don't you under estimate
What love can ever do
For love is God eternal
And His love can renew

What is cold and lifeless
Now lost all hope and died
For love can breathe new meaning
And give it back new life

Please don't give up on love
When it seems that all is lost
For there is always hope
If we're prepared to pay the cost

For love is always worth it
No matter how much the price
For love will be much stronger
When we trust in Jesus Christ

So let God have full reign
Let Him live within your heart
Then you will know true love
For this He will impart

A Brand New Start 2-8-12

In the beginning God had made.

foundation's rock where I have laid -

all my troubles, all my lies -

all my heartaches, all my cries -

all my burdens, all my sin -

all my heartaches here within.

But now, a Christian, I ride seas,

ride His oceans, ride His breeze -

ride His clouds where angels live -

optimistic, positive -

high on grace and high on love -

high on Jesus, free above!

A God of love, a God of peace,

a God of hope where sorrows cease -

where I have gained and hold no loss

because of Jesus and the cross -

because of grace that pardoned me -

because of faith that sets me free!

And all that my dear Savior knows,

my Comforter and Spirit shows -

in the Heavens, where God built -

a place where flowers will not wilt -

a place where Angels sing in voice -

a place where Christians will rejoice!

So pray for father, sister, mother,

brother, friends and one another,

fellow workers, enemies -

and ne'er forget the 'least of these'.

For those who give a broken heart -

will receive a brand new start.
